On the day, Helena Jahangir’s lawyer appealed for bail in the case. The state, on the other hand, opposed bail. After hearing both sides, the court granted her bail.
Earlier on August 3, Helena Jahangir was produced in court. After hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman granted a 8-day remand in two cases filed with Pallabi Police Station and Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nevana Khair granted a 6-day remand in two cases filed with Gulshan Police Station.
It is to be mentioned that RAB arrested Helena Jahangir on July 28 after a four-hour raid at her Gulshan resident in the capital. Foreign liquor, illegal walkie-talkie sets, casino equipment and deerskins were recovered from her home. After her arrest, she was taken to the RAB headquarters for questioning.
RAB handed over Helena Jahangir to the Gulshan police station on July 30. At that time, RAB-1’s CPC Md. Mojibur Rahman lodged a case against her with Gulshan police under the Digital Security Act.
Accused Helena Jahangir was then produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court. Sheikh Shahanur Rahman, the investigating officer of the case, then appealed for a five-day remand for a proper investigation into the case. The court later granted her a three-day.
According to the Digital Security Act case, the accused Helena Jahangir is using the digital platform on the online virtual world to tarnish the law and order situation in the country by discrediting and disseminating false information including insulting the image of important personalities of the country.
