A record 143 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours. Of these, 142 are residents of the capital. It was said in a regular online bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, the health department said a maximum of 123 dengue patients had been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of dengue patients admitted to the hospital in a single day this year, 120 of them are residents of Dhaka.

Earlier, a maximum of 104 people were admitted to the hospital with dengue on Saturday. According to the Department of Health (DGHS), 1,069 people have been infected with dengue since January this year. All but 47 are residents of Dhaka. A total of, 1,307 people have been infected this month while 272 people were infected in June and 43 in May. Though most of the patients who were hospitalized have so far been released, 460 of them are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and six in hospitals outside the capital, the DGHS data showed.

The data of three patients who died on suspicion of dengue have been sent to the government’s Institute of Pathology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) for review. However, the IEDCR has not confirmed any deaths from dengue so far this year. April to October is usually considered the dengue season. However, in previous years, the highest number of dengue cases was seen in June-July. A few days of intermittent rains have affected the Aedes mosquito breeding. Experts have advised being more careful in case of fever as the symptoms of corona and dengue are close.
