COVID claims ‘record’ in fresh cases in 24hrs, 199 die

The number of deaths by the coronavirus (Covid-19) has been increasing day by day in Bangladesh. The country has reported the second-highest 199 COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, bring the death toll from the pandemic to 15,792. Besides, 11,651 people were diagnosed with the virus during the period – which is the highest COVID cases identified in a day. With this, the overall caseload has surged to 989,219.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) informed this today (Thursday, July 8, 2021) in its routine daily statement or press release. According to the press release, 31.62 percent of the 38,024 samples were collected in the 24 hours were tested positive. “A total of 68,66,682 samples were tested so far in the country, yielding the total positivity rate of 14.41 percent,” DGHS said.

Among the dead in the last 24 hours, 133 were male and 66 were female. Khulna division reported 55 deaths in the past 24 hours while 65 died in Dhaka division, 37 in Chattogram, 15 in Rajshahi, and 10 in Mymensingh division. The recovery count rose to 850,502 after another 5,987 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 86.57 percent recovered, while 1.60 percent died. Earlier, 209 virus deaths, the highest single-day spike and 11,162 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday (July 8).
