Film actress Chandni passes away

Dhallywood film actress Silvi Azmi Chandni has passed away (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un). The once-popular actress of Dhaka cinema breathed her last at a hospital in Bogura at 10.30 am on Tuesday, confirmed filmmaker Biplob Sharif on Wednesday.
“Chandni was suffering from thyroid problem for a long time. She was also in financial trouble. As a result, she couldn’t bear the medical expenses. She was admitted to Dhaka Health Care for many days. She then went to Bogura and breathed her last at a hospital there,” said Biplob Sharif.
Silvi Azmi Chandni set her foot in the film industry as a first runner-up through the beauty contest ‘Binodon Bichitra PhotoSundori’ in 2007. She started her journey in the film through the movie ‘Bol Na Kabul’ directed by Shahadat Hossain Liton. Silvi starred opposite Emon in 2010 in the film ‘Jemon Jamai Temon Bou’, however, she became known as Chandni to the viewers. She also acted in six films produced by Nazimuddin Chairman.
Chandni was arrested in 2011 with 80 pieces of yaba from a hotel in Cox’s Bazar. She was accompanied by six others, including film director GM Sarwar. For this, they were in jail for a long time. Silvi Azmi Chandni was later released on bail. Chandni’s father Zahurul Islam, a businessman by profession, currently lives out of the country and her mother Shirin is a housewife. Chandni was the only daughter of her parents.
