Bangla Academy’s ex-DG Shamsuzzaman dies of COVID

Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan, former Director General (DG) of Bangla Academy and President of the Board of Directors, has passed away after being infected with coronavirus (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un). He breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) at 2:00 pm on Wednesday.
Confirming the matter, Bangla Academy’s current DG Poet Habibullah Siraj said Shamsuzzaman Khan will be buried in his mother’s grave in Manikganj as per the family’s decision.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and State Minister for Culture KM Khalid expressed deep shock at the death of the country’s prominent folklorist. It is to be mentioned that Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan was tested positive for the coronavirus on April 8. He was transferred to the ICU when his condition deteriorated.
