Covid-19: Bangladesh sees highest deaths in a day

Bangladesh reported 96 coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike, raising the total number of deaths to 9,987, according to the official figures. Besides, 5,185 Covid-19 cases were confirmed during the period. With the latest, the total number of cases surged to 7,03,170. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) informed this in a press release on Wednesday (April 14, 2021).
A total of 24,825 samples were tested at 227 authorized laboratories across the country during the time, the press release added. In the past 24 hours, another 5,333 people were discharged from the hospital, raising the total number of cured patients to 5,91,299. “The recovery rate by Covid-19 in the country is 83.95 percent while the mortality rate stands at 1.42 percent,” the DGHS press release informed.
Earlier, 6,028 COVID-19 patients were diagnosed while 69 deaths related to the disease were reported yesterday. The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
