Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Zahid Malek said the country is likely to get 1.9 crore doses of COVAX by next June. Besides, the second shipment of Coronavirus vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India may arrive this month and then the rest doses of the vaccine will arrive consistently.
The minister came up with the information on Thursday while talking to reporters after a program organized at the National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital in the capital.
More than 53 lakh people have registered for vaccination, he said, adding that more than 41 lakh people have been vaccinated so far.
Urging everyone to be aware of the coronavirus again, the minister said the virus did not leave us. Bangladesh will be safe if the virus leaves from the whole world, not only from our country.
It has been reported that although the coronavirus detection rate in the country had been low for several months, it is increasing in the last few days. More than a thousand people tested positive for coronavirus in a single day on Wednesday.
Stating that the increase in coronavirus infection is alarming, the minister said that coronavirus infection is increasing due to reckless movement of people and non-observance of hygiene rules. The number of patients in the hospital has increased compared to the past.
He said teachers, staff and residential students of schools, colleges and universities would be vaccinated.
Among others, Secretary of the Health Services Department of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Md Abdul Mannan, Secretary of Health Education Md Ali Noor, President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin and others were present at the occasion.
