Ishant Sharma became the second Indian pacer to play 100 Tests for the country as he was selected for the playing XI for the Day-Night Test against England at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, the world’s biggest cricket stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Before Ishant Sharma, World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev was the only Indian fast bowler to play 100 Tests. He played 131 Tests for the country from 1978 to 1994.
Besides Ishant Sharma, only two fast bowlers in the world have played more than 100 Test matches in the modern era. England’s two fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad have played 158 and 145 Tests respectively. However, only three bowlers in the history of Indian cricket have played 100 Test matches.
Anil Kumble played 132 Test matches, Kapil Dev for 131 and Harbhajan Singh 103. Ishant extended the list from three to four. Ishant Sharma made his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2006 at the age of just 19. The Indian fast bowler has added 303 wickets in 100 Test matches.
