A third doctor, Major (retd) Professor Dr Abul Mokarim Md Mohsin Uddin, has died from the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh. He was the head of the Radiology Department at Ibn Sina Hospital in the capital. “He died at 11:20 pm on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital,” Ibn Sina Hospital’s Public Relations Officer Shah Forkan told Business Standard.
Dr Abul Mukarim was tested positive for Covid-19 ten days ago and was undergoing treatment at Ibn Sina Hospital, he further added. Four days ago, he was admitted to CMH for ICU support, he added. “He was only 65-year-old, suffering from fatal lungs injury caused by Covid-19 and fought till the last,” the doctor’s niece, Masrufa Ayesha Nusrat posted on Facebook. CMH, where he was treated will take care of his burial, she informed.
With him, a total of three doctors lost the battle against the deadly virus in the country. Earlier, Bangladesh reported first death of a physician – Dr Md Moyeen Uddin, an assistant professor of Medicine at the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital- on April 15 and a second doctor, Colonel (retd) Professor Dr Moniruzzaman, died from the novel coronavirus on May 4.
