887 new infected in 24hrs, 14 more dead in country

14 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 228 in the country. Besides, the highest number of 887 fresh positive cases have been recorded in a single day. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 14,657. DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Sunday.
A total of 5,738 samples have been tested in 36 coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 887 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 14,657, she said. This is the biggest single-day spike in new cases since the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the country on March 8. Meanwhile, 236 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,650, the health official said.
About the new fatalities, Prof Nasima said that 10 of them are male and four female. Among the female, one was aged between 30 and 40, one between 51 and 60 and two others between 61 and 70. Meanwhile, four of the 10 male fatalities were aged between 41 and 50, two between 51 and 60, three between 61 and 70 and one other between 91 and 100. The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 212 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 4,115,162 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 280,579 while 1,446,124 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
